How to Prepare Your Home for the Festive Season

Posted on Friday, December 11th, 2020

The festive season is finally upon us and we’re already feeling the heavy pressure from the neverending list of things to do. From October to January, we’re all going to be busy, busy, busy!

If this is your first year hosting or you’re a seasoned family event planner, then you’ve come to the right place. We love a good list, so here’s a list of ways to keep on top of all the madness this festive season.

Have a Big Clean

It’s important that you fully address the elephant in the room – your house. Now, we’re not saying that your house is filthy, but an especially deep clean is in order for the festive season!

Why? Because you don’t want your Nan coming in and seeing your dusty photo-frames or your dirty kitchen taps, that’s why. The best way to achieve this is to keep up to date on your cleaning schedule. Consider cleaning a room a day, meaning you won’t get disheartened if you have a particularly large house!

Delegate Tasks

If your to-do list is getting a bit overwhelming, it’s time to delegate those tasks! Of course, passing these items over to younger children might cause a bit of an issue, especially if it’s ironing all your table cloths.

Whatever you can pass to others, do. This will help you control stress levels and allow you to enjoy the festive season!

Get Into the Spirit

There’s a lot of ‘bah-humbugs’ floating around when it gets to Christmas time. Getting into this mindset can put a damper on things. Try changing this mind-set early in the year, so that you can thoroughly enjoy the festivities when it comes to it.

Not a fan of the gifting aspect? Set yourself a spending limit! If you don’t enjoy hosting Christmas, maybe ask someone else to take the reigns. Decorate your home to make it feel more festive, or don’t! Whatever makes you happy is ultimately the best course of action when it comes to the holidays.

Declutter

Having a big declutter before the festive season is a sure-fire way to keep you calm, collected and know where everything is! If you know your family goes big for Christmas, then maybe a declutter is just what the doctor ordered.

Ever heard the saying ‘Tidy kitchen, tidy mind’? Well, that’s what we’re going for here. Go through each room and throw away/donate/gift items that you no longer need or want. Once you’ve had a proper sort through everything, you’re bound to feel at ease and ready for the festive season.
