Updating Your Kitchen on a Budget

Posted on Friday, February 21st, 2020

Hello, 2020! With the New Year comes the dreaded January blues. A time that we can all agree, becomes somewhat soul-destroying. This leads to us craving new changes in our lives, from an ill-advised haircut to a brand new kitchen!

However, we’re all scraping the barrel a bit after Christmas and the possibility of getting ourselves a brand new kitchen seems far from reach. That’s not to say that we can’t make some smaller changes that make a big difference! If you’re on a tight budget, these tips can help you upgrade cooking space without the massive expense.

Get Painting!

It’s incredible what a small lick of paint can do to a room. Crack out the brushes, because we’re about to get DIY-happy. The best way to update your cabinets and change the overall vibe of your kitchen is to change the colour of the kitchen.

An easy way to do this is by painting your cabinet doors. Instead of forking out hundreds or even thousands for a brand new kitchen cabinet, just paint the doors and change the handles. It’ll look like a brand new kitchen once you’re done, all for a lower price!

Grab Some New Light Fixtures

If you’re wanting to modernise your kitchen and bring it back into the 21st century, then changing your lights is definitely something to think about. If you’re looking for a new-yorky underground vibe, then opting for some trendy hanging lights and sconces will instantly add that extra pizazz that you’re looking for.

If your current lights are a bit dark or are covered at the top, it can make your kitchen feel a bit dingy. Get yourself some lights that are open so you can fully appreciate your brand new bright kitchen.

Add a Backsplash

Another way to modernise your kitchen is by adding a backsplash behind your cooker. This is a great way of adding texture and dimension to the room, without it becoming too busy.

Backsplashes have become popular over the last few years, allowing you to add a pop of colour and personality into what can be a generic and boring room. Opting for a patterned tile is not only more interesting but also on-trend.

Hang Some Shelves

If you’re struggling for space, installing yourself some fancy new shelves are the perfect solution! Not only do they look incredibly chic, but they are also wonderfully practical.

As an alternative, you can store pots, pans, cookbooks, appliances and even fancy plants onto your shelves to free up some much-needed cupboard space. They’re also much cheaper than new cupboards!
